January
4

Looking for something fun to do on Long Island this January? Here are just a few of the many things you can expect this new year.

Our real estate agents love all the possibilities that come with the new year: new design trends, new movies and shows, but best of all, new events in the neighborhood. Long Island is a bustling and diverse community that's unlike any other, so you can be sure there's always something fun to do locally. Before you make any resolutions — and between viewing Brooklyn homes for sale — take some time to relax and recharge with a winter event! Here are just a handful of the fun events you can expect this January.

Exhibitions At The Heckscher Museum - 2 Prime Avenue, Huntington, NY

The Heckscher Museum of Art opened in 1920, and it has no plans of stopping anytime soon. Their Tracing History, Inspiring The Future exhibition celebrates 100 years of the museum and showcases masterworks from six centuries. You'll even have a chance to see archival material and seldom displayed items. If you can't catch the museum's century celebration open through January 9th, visit the Moonstruck exhibit opening on January 20th, which collects moody and mythical pieces inspired by the moon and moonlight.

Take A Winter Hike Through The Wertheim Wildlife Refuge - 340 Smith Road, Shirley, NY

While their visiting center and giftshop may temporarily be closed, the Wertheim Wildlife Refuge wants to remind RI residents that their miles of trails are still open for hiking, birdwatching, and photography for anyone who wants a more adventurous winter activity. Different trail loops offer shorter or longer hikes depending on how long you want to spend in the refuge. This is one of the best times to view waterfowl, and as spring rolls around, you may catch glimpses of red foxes, turkey, and white-tailed deer.

Painting Classes at Pinot's Palette - 2557 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY

Want to learn a new hobby and sip some wine along with it? Pinot's Palette is again hosting in-studio classes where you can create your own masterpiece paintings with the help of professional staff, all the while enjoying a glass of wine. It's a fun event for friends and adults in your family, and you get to take home a piece of art you can brag you made yourself. If you're visiting East Meadow homes for sale, this can be a great way to close the evening.

The Westhampton Beach Farmers Market - Mill Road & Main Street, Westhampton Beach, NY

If you want to support your community and go home with some of the best locally sourced produce and homemade items, the Westhampton Beach Farmers Market should be your first stop. Hosting over 60 vendors, you'll find plenty of sauces, fresh pasta, local wine, and more!

Cinderella and Other Shows at Plaza's Broadway - 700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont NY 11003

Have you visited Nassau County's only professional theatre? Now's the perfect time to see the spirit of Broadway on Long Island. This January, Plaza brings one of the most classic fairy tales to life with a fast-paced musical rendition of Cinderella. The show is for all ages, so if you're looking for a quality way to entertain your kids, it's hard to find something better than Plaza's professional shows. After January, Cinderella will return to the stage briefly in April, but there are plenty of other shows you can catch in the meantime!

Winter Forest Walk by The Nassau County Museum of Art - One Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor, NY 11576

One of the best parts of winter is how serene and calming it can be outside, and one of the best places you can experience this is on the grounds of the Nassau County Museum of Art. On January 8th, the museum is hosting a Winter Forest Walk with naturalist Virginia Dankel. You'll learn about how the seasonal changes affect the local wilderness and gain a better appreciation for winter weather. If you want a really full day, plan your visit around touring the inside of the museum as well. You might even find art pieces that are inspired by the winter weather you experienced outside.

Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery - 412 Main St, Port Jefferson

Do you love classic literature or comedy? Ken Ludwig's adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes story, "The Hound Of The Baskervilles," is live at Theater Three. Originally a scary mystery, this story has been flipped on its head to give you one of the most entertaining adaptations of the original. See if you can solve the mystery yourself as only five actors play more than forty characters. You can catch the show through February 5th, but tickets will sell fast so secure yours soon.

There's plenty more to do on Long Island, you just need to go outside and explore it! For the best information on buying and selling homes across Long Island and the Metro New York area, contact us today.
