Summer might be in full swing, but it's not too late to plan that last-minute beach vacation you've been dreaming about. Vacationing is easy when you live on Long Island. With over 1,100 miles of shoreline, there are warm sandy beaches within driving distance of almost any Long Island community. It's easy for our locals to get away, whether it be for a weekend day trip or a week-long beach vacation.
Our real estate agents can't get enough of the sun, sand, and water this summer, so we thought we'd create a quick guide to some of Long Island's best beaches:
- Jones Beach State Park
One of the most beautiful and popular beaches on Long Island is Jones Beach State Park. Sitting on the south end of the Long Island RailRoad (LIRR) this beach has 6.5 miles of white sandy beaches. You'll also find volleyball, basketball courts, swimming pools, and an awesome two-mile boardwalk with tons of local restaurants, ice cream shops, and independent stores. If living near the beach sounds good to you, you'll want to definitely check out these nearby Nassau County homes for sale.
- Robert Moses State Park
Robert Moses State Park is a great beach for swimming. The park is equipped with lifeguards, bathrooms, outdoor showers, and concession stands. After you dry off, you can even head over to the 19-hole pitch-and-putt golf course or the boardwalk for some fun. You can also take a stroll on the nature trail, which will eventually lead to the amazing Fire Island Lighthouse. The park does have an entrance fee of $10 per car.
- Long Beach
One of Long Island's most well-known beaches, Long Beach is a quick train ride from Manhattan. It sits on Long Island's South Shore and it's a great choice for a day trip or brief escape. Enjoy a day on the beach with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline in the background. Once you're hungry, head over to the boardwalk and enjoy a nice dinner at one of the area's great local restaurants. If you fall in love with sights and sounds, it might be worth scheduling a tour of one of these Long Beach homes for sale.
- Watch Hill
If you're looking for something more low-key, Fire Island National Seashore's Watch Hill is an excellent choice. Experience nature and beautiful seascapes on this well-maintained beach. It's remote and somewhat desolate, with hardly any development. It's also an awesome place for birdwatching. This beautiful seashore is just a short drive away from these Suffolk County homes for sale.
- Nickerson Beach Park
This half-mile stretch of coastline offers a beautiful beach, a skate park, and a campground. Lifeguards are on duty at Nickerson Beach Park, so it's a great place to swim. Plus, it also doesn't get nearly as crowded as some of Long Island's more popular beaches. It's clean, peaceful, and a great place to unwind after a busy week.
- Orient Beach State Park
Experience all the natural beauty Long Island has to offer at Orient Beach State Park. Located on Gardiner's Bay, this beach is a bit rocky, but it's also beautiful. It has beautiful seascapes along with a huge maritime forest with tons of different types of trees and wildlife. Lifeguards, concession stands, and restrooms are all available, so it's easy to spend an entire day or weekend at the park. The park entrance fee is $10 per car per day.
