April
17

The last thing you want for your four-legged friend is to be laying around the house all day. Here are local spots where your dog can get plenty of exercise.

If you have an active lifestyle, sharing it with your furry friend can have many benefits. Just like humans, dogs need fresh air and exercise to stay happy and healthy. Taking your dog to a local park or trail where they can run around with other pups is a great way to get them some exercise and socialization.

In honor of Active Dog Month this April, we encourage you to take your dog out to your favorite Long Island spot for some exercise. Our real estate agents pulled together a list of our favorite locations:

  • Newbridge Road Dog Park - 2600 Newbridge Rd, Bellmore, NY 11710
The area's first town-operated dog park is located just around the corner from some luxurious Bellmore homes for sale. With 14,025 square feet, Newbridge Road Dog Park is one of the area's best. It's only accessible to town residents, and you'll find tons of amenities your dog will love, including hurdles, ramps, and a nice turf surface that is comfortable on the paws.

  • West Hills County Park - Sweet Hollow Rd, Huntington, NY 11743
West Hills County Park is a beautiful Suffolk County park with well-groomed nature trails, tons of wildlife, and a huge off-leash dog area that has two separate sections for big dogs and small dogs. The dog park also has a small bit of forest, which pups love to explore. With a water pump, bowls, and a picnic table, the park has everything you need for a fun day in the sun.

  • Cherry Avenue Dog Park - Cherry Ave, West Sayville, NY 11796
This 1.5-acre off-leash dog park has two gated, neatly mulched sections for large and small dogs. Both sections of plenty of grass and trees. With several garbage cans, running water, and easy parking, Cherry Avenue Dog Park has become one of the most popular spots in Suffolk County.

  • Wantagh Park - 1 King Rd, Wantagh, NY 11793
Take your pup on a stroll across this 111-acre park in Nassau County that offers beautiful trails and spectacular waterfront views. Wantagh Park also has a dedicated dog run just north of the marina. It's covered in synthetic turf, so you won't have to worry about muddy paws. If you'd like to live just a few minutes from the park, check out these Wantagh homes for sale nearby.

  • Eisenhower Park Dog Run - 576 Salisbury Park Dr, Westbury, NY 11590
This recently renovated dog park features synthetic turf with no dirt or mud, benches, a chain link fence, and concrete sidewalks. Eisenhower Park Dog Run has separate sections for small and large dogs, and the park has complementary doggie bags, drinking bowls, toys, and even a small pool for hot days. There is plenty of parking near the park, but it does get crowded on weekends so plan ahead!

  • Gardiner County Park - Montauk Hwy, Bay Shore, NY 11706
A 231-acre park in Bay Shore with stunning nature trails and a small dog park, Gardiner County Park had to make the list. This park has a reputation for being extremely dog-friendly. Leashes are required on trails, but pups can run free in the dog park. You'll also find plenty of water fountains and waste stations.

With so many pet-friendly parks around Long Island, you're sure to have fun with your dog this April. Contact us for more info about Long Island living.
